Dropping a beloved piece of a jewelry down the sink can be heartbreaking. Fortunately, in many cases you are able to retrieve your jewelry. Here are a few steps you can take to help retrieve lost items from down your drain.
How to Retrieve Jewelry:
- Turn off the Water Supply – Before you touch your plumbing system, you’ll want to turn the water off. Turn off your water supply by turning the valve clockwise.
- Locate the P-Trap – This is the u-shaped part of your plumbing depicted in the image to the right.
- Clear the Surrounding Area – Place a small bucket underneath the p-track before loosening the area. There will be a lot of gunk, grim and water coming out of the pipe when you loosen it.
- Loosen the P-Trap – Use adjustable pliers or a wrench to loosen the slip nuts on either end of the p-trap. Use counterclockwise movement to accomplish this. Your jewelry should fall out into your bucket!
